Charter education was the only choice for me and my family from day one. But for two and a half years I decided to take on the responsibility of educating my girls. I felt they needed to detox from the education system, so I homeschooled them. When it was time for my girls to go back to a school setting, I had my mind set on Young Women's College Prep. My daughter was in the school for only one week when an AMAZING educator contacted me by phone and shared her concerns about my daughter. For the first time since my daughter entered the school system, I felt heard, understood and validated. This teacher supported me through the CSE process and was a key factor in the outcome. At YWCP I didn't find teachers, I found lifetime friends, partners in my children's education, and in the school I found inclusion as a valued member of our school community. At YWCP I found an entire team behind my daughter's education, even after the school district failed to meet the needs of my child. The teachers at YWCP were behind my daughter every step of the way until she graduated. Everyone in the school is welcoming, starting with the office staff all the way to the security staff. Currently I am the only parent representative in our Board of Trustees. In my role I understand the responsibility of advocating on behalf of our girls and take the job very seriously. I wish other parents would feel encouraged and join us in our monthly board meetings and eventually make the decision of becoming a Board member and support our decision making process and bring their experience and voice into the decision making table

Because of the teachers at YWCP who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, I found my purpose, pursued my education, and became the woman my mother always hoped I’d be.

At YWCP, I discovered the power of my voice and the strength within me to lead, advocate, and create meaningful change. It was there I first saw myself not just as a student, but as a young woman capable of shaping the world.

YWCP empowered me to find my voice and advocate for myself, preparing me to lead with confidence in male-dominated spaces—from RIT to the corporate world.

Thanks to (YWCP), I started with a strong foundation. Their college prep workshops, trips, and guest speakers gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed. I didn’t just succeed in high school—I made the Dean’s List in college and earned special opportunities. YWCP empowered me to believe in my potential, no matter my background.
