YWCP is pleased to welcome Dr. Karla Hatley as Assistant Principal of Student Management, Support & Wellness. Dr. Hatley is a passionate and dynamic leader committed to the belief that every child can & will learn and thrive both mentally and physically. Below is a short biography of her experience. #YWCPWAYDr. Karla L. Hatley is a Licensed, Master Social Worker. She attended the SUNY Brockport, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She received her Master of Social Work degree from Syracuse University. She most recently earned her EdD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Rochester. Her area of study focused on the academic and social support systems most impactful for African American students. Dr. Hatley has been an educator for over 20 years, working in elementary, middle, and high schools. She has been an instructor at MCC, teaching courses on Death and Dying and Child Health and Development while advising the Black Student Association and Co-Chairing the African American Affinity Group. As an Associate Director at the University of Rochester, Dr. Hatley provided strategic oversite to the design and implementation of successful student-alumni engagement relationships, programs, and services. Dr. Hatley is currently a School Social Worker in the Rochester City School District and has spent the last few years as a lead social worker, mentoring new social workers and taking a lead role within school-based crisis intervention and Trauma, Illness, and Grief (TIG). Additionally, she serves as the creator and instructor for Seasons of Change, a grief and loss class.Dr. Hatley is a member of professional organizations including, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., The Patient and Family Advisory Council (Strong Memorial Hospital), National Scholarship Committee, and Benefits Board (Church of God By Faith, Inc.). ...
